Dental care by student hygienist-therapist

Free dental care by student hygienist-therapists.

What does a Dental Hygienist-Therapist do?

Dental Hygienist-Therapists provide the following treatment for adult patients:

  • Disease prevention and oral hygiene advice
  • Scale and polish (gum treatment) and
  • Routine fillings

There are some clinical treatments which the students are not able to provide, namely: root canal treatment, extraction of permanent (adult) teeth, dentures, veneers, crowns, bridges, whitening, orthodontics and dental implants.

Patients must not be registered with a local dentist and their dental treatment needs must be appropriate for the student's stage of training.  We are unable to accept referrals from outside the boundary of NHS Lothian.

Download and read the patient information leaflet for further details. Please do this before filling in the online form below.
