Background

Louise O’Dowd graduated from Dundee University Dental School in 2002 before moving to Newcastle Dental Hospital in 2006 to begin specialist training in Restorative dentistry.  This five year programme provided specialist training in the mono-specialist disciplines of periodontology, prosthodontics and endodontics and focussed the management of patients with complex treatment needs requiring multi-disciplinary management.

Alongside specialist training Dr O’Dowd completed a Masters degree in Restorative dentistry from the University of Newcastle with her research concentrating on Patients’ Perspectives of Periodontal Disease. On completion of specialist training in 2011 Dr O’Dowd obtained Speciality Fellowship from RCSEd was appointed to her current role at Edinburgh Dental Institute (EDI).

Louise’s role involves UG and PG clinical and didactic dental education including research. In addition, she provides NHS dental treatment for patients with complex needs requiring non-routine management and  Leadership for the Department of Restorative Dentistry.

Louise divides her time between EDI and a private specialist practice where she provides periodontal treatment for referred patients.
