During his military service, he was a trainer in the DFT scheme, and served in British Forces Germany, Kosovo and N. Ireland. He completed diplomas for MFGDP(UK) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2004), Primary Dental Studies (2010) from The University of Bristol and a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education (2010).He left the RADC in 2011 and was appointed as a civilian dental practitioner with Defence Primary Healthcare. He completed his MSc in Primary Dental Care with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh in 2019 and was appointed as an Enhanced Practitioner (EP) to the newly formed Restorative Dentistry Managed Clinical Network in Oct 2020. With his nurse, he provides Consultant led Tier 2 Restorative Dentistry within an area that covers Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland. He joined the team at Edinburgh Dental Institute as a clinical tutor in 2024. Outside of dentistry, Byran can be found competing in Loch Style Fly Fishing and a local tennis league.
